Rhode Island College is a nationally accredited and comprehensive undergraduate and graduate degree granting institution founded in 1854 as a teacher’s college. It is the state’s first public institution of higher education. The College now offers 90 undergraduate majors and programs, 42 master’s degrees and two doctoral degree programs in five schools: the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development, the School of Management, the School of Nursing, and the School of Social Work. Located on a 180-acre campus in the Mount Pleasant section of Providence, Rhode Island, the College combines a suburban atmosphere with easy access to the benefits and resources of the capital city. The College serves approximately 8,500 residential and commuter students and has 360 full-time faculty, approximately 400 adjunct faculty and 600 staff members. The annual budget is $201 million. Rhode Island College is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and has also received accreditation for specific programs from the following agencies: Council on Social Work Education, National Association of Schools of Art and Design, National Association of Schools of Music, National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education. RHODE ISLAND COLLEGE ANNOUNCES AN EXECUTIVE SEARCH FOR PROVOST AND VICE PRESIDENT FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS The Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs reports to the President and is the Chief Academic Officer of the College. The Provost advises the President on policies and operations and serves as the chief executive in the absence of the President. The anticipated start date for this appointment is Summer/Fall 2020.
